Météorites et droit des relations internationales

Abstract

A meteorite can be defined as a solid object of extra terrestrial origin that landed on the ground of Earth or another celestial body due to natural forces. The present article focuses on the legal status of meteorites, in other words the collection of rules which are applicable to them. This status is made up of a combination of public international law, transnational law an national law (s). Finally, the meteorite remains a badly defined legal object, because it can be viewed under many angles : as an object susceptible to private appropriation, as a « common » (res communis), or as an element of national heritage. And why not, tomorrow, as a « common heritage of mankind ».
