Contexts, assessment paradigms and ecological evaluation
Résumé
A range of factors is influencing assessment and evaluation practices. Political, sociological, cultural, technical and individual dynamics are shaping the contexts in which evaluation is taking place. Therefore understanding the complex relationships between the contexts and models of evaluation is critical when looking at the way assessments are implemented. After reviewing the evolution of assessment's models and the underlying theorical concepts, I will consider how paradigmatic shifts are shaping assessments, drawing on international examples. I will also introduce the idea of ‘ecological assessments’. This type of evaluation considers the context (or milieu) as an integral part of the evaluation. The overarching goal is to to create assessments with emancipatory aims. In this presentation, I will explore the key principles required for this type of evaluation.
