Open-focused microwave-assisted sample preparation for the speciation of organometallic compounds of Sn and Hg.

Résumé

Sample prepn. is often the most tedious and crit. step during speciation of organometallic species in sediments and biol. tissues. The application of a focused microwave field allows to speed up the extn. of these compds. without altering their organometallic moiety. A 3-min microwave exposure at low-power (40W-60W) was enough to obtain a quant. recovery of the target compds., and the sample prepn. becomes then the shortest step in the overall anal. procedure. Besides, the reagents consumption was reduced to a few ml and the microwave assisted extn. efficiency was equal or better than this obtained by classical methods. The developed methods were validated by the anal. of three ref. materials (two sediments PACS-1 and BCR 462, and one biol. tissue NIESS 11) for the butyltin speciation and two ref. and intercalibration sediments (IAEA 356, BCR S19) for the methylmercury speciation.
