Mensonges à grande échelle dans la trilogie d’Antoine Bello (2007-2015). Re(con)figurations d’un imaginaire complotiste transséculaire

Abstract : The trilogy Les Falsificateurs (2007), Les Éclaireurs (2009) and Les Producteurs (2015) earned Antoine Bello a quick success. Although contemporary readers admire his sudden popularity, the figures of the lie that populate his trilogy are not new. The “Consortium for the Falsification of the Real”, whose three novels display the multiple concealments, is reminiscent of an older literary constellation: the secret association of conspirators with transnational aims. As such, we propose to read the trilogy as the contemporary variation of a transsecular imagination. A historical perspective on the novels reveals that the characters of the falsifiers belong to a conspiracy palimpsest. But these professional liars introduce also a rather original inspiration in French literature: a rationalization of the imagination of the mega-conspiracy. The article describes and analyzes briefly the modalities, stakes and limits of this imagination.
